INTRODUCTION
For a while now
our Premier roster has only been open to applications from established
name DJ's and performers. However after listening to the many
talented professional DJ's out there who have contacted us -
those with stacks of performance experience but not necessarily
on the major club circuit - you've all been quite clear about
what you want - a stepping stone to getting onto a professional
agency.
Sparkle is an
established player in the industry, with a strong Premier DJ
roster (and more "name" artists applying every month),
and we believe that it is time to help break the Catch 22 situation
which makes it almost impossible for individual artists to get
recognition at a professional industry level.
Our Risin' service is subscription based - apologies in advance
- it's not something we really wanted to do but we have to be
sure that we can recover our advertising and administration costs.
RISIN' DETAILS
Artists
will have to audition, and selection for Risin' will maintain
the rigorous standards of our Sparkle Premier roster in regard
to talent and professionalism, so promoters can retain confidence
in their selection - you must have good performance experience
(sorry no bedroom DJ's). At the same time it will allow
a number (places will be strictly limited) of very talented performers
to help their quest for stardom with the increasing strength
of the Sparkle brand and be recognised in terms of talent alongside
some of the best performers in the business.
Don't confuse
us with the many hobby DJ sites and DJ registers/listings on
the web - they are mainly speculative lists of hundreds (often
thousands) of DJ hopefuls - many of dubious ability and little
experience. We are a fully registered commercial enterprise with
full time and part time staff with over 55 years premier DJ'ing
and promotion experience between us as well as commercial skills
in sales, business management, studio and graphic design. We
support our services with paid magazine and internet advertising,
flyer campaigns, ongoing promotion/PR, and partnering with established
industry businesses to give our performers appropriate industry
exposure.
BENEFITS
The cost of subscribing
to the Risin' roster will be £100 per year which covers
the professional write up and graphic finishing for your entry
on the Risin' website pages, plus monthly updates as needed,
and gives you access to the full design capabilities of Sparkle
at reduced rates for CD and biography artwork, free copies of
the various commercial e-publications and tips sheets available
from us from time to time and use of the Sparkle brand logos,and
agency flyers for their own marketing activities, pro-forma DJ
contracts, email address support if they don't already have it
(we have several addresses that can be used - @sparkleagency,
@female-djs, @house-djs and so on).
DJ's accepted
onto Risin' at the time of publication currently feature in our
full colour double page spread in the new 2003/4 Music Industry
Manual (Promoters Handbook) in both the DJ Agencies section and
the all important DJ Directory pages.
We are also offering
e-mail and phone help with just about anything DJ or promotion
related during our normal working hours please, plus the possibility
of 'promotion' to the Premier roster as your experience widens
and places become available. We are currently in discussion with
a very major brand re sponsorship and there may be spin off sponsorship
opportunities for DJ's too.
Risin' artists have the freedom to set their own performance
fees, deal direct with promoters by phone or email (except where
multi-artist bookings are being made) - ensuring full control
by you, rather than us. We can also deal with promoters
on your behalf if you (or the promoter) wishes.
GENERAL TERMS
To avoid any
confusion please note we are a booking agent, NOT a management
agency and do not offer individual artist promotion or plugging
- if that's what you are looking for you need to get yourself
a manager or marketing/PR person as well as applying to Risin'.
Just like our Premier roster, we make no guarantee relating
to possible bookings as you will appreciate this is subject entirely
to market forces - however we do offer a level of international
professional exposure in the industry alongside recognised artists.
Successful bookings
resulting from our agency pages are subject to a 10% min UK£10
commission on your gross performance fee. This also applies to
repeat bookings, residencies or new work arising form the origianl
booking. We work on the honour system - you don't pay us
until you have been paid the deposit or fee for the performance.
This arrangement does not affect any work you go out and get
yourself or are already undertaking, nor is it an exclusive arrangement
- you can work with other bookers, agents or through a manager
if you wish (though we insist that all contacts and business
dealings made through us remain confidential).
Under normal
circumstances we do NOT charge promoters a booking fee or VAT
- making bookings on any transaction
Acceptance onto
our roster requires that business dealings between you and us
are confidential and that you carry out your performer duties
and business in a professional and courteous manner - artists
on our roster must be good ambassadors for Sparkle as well as
good perfeomers!
